Platform Discovery - Financial Services
Sector: FinTech
Role: Technical Consultant
Engagement: Platform discovery and delivery strategy
Type: Greenfield architecture + board-ready planning
A FinTech startup aimed to replace three regulated tools with one unified platform.
Big vision. No team. No code. Everything was still possible — but nothing was yet credible.
The Challenge
- Greenfield platform, regulated domain, no delivery team
- Ambitious scope with no defined MVP or delivery boundaries
- Stakeholders hard to access, harder to align
- High investor expectations — but no credible plan to back
The ask: Can we turn ambition into a strategy the board can fund — and a team can actually run with?
What I Did
Technical Architecture & Strategy
- Designed a secure, multi-tenant architecture based on zero-trust and FCA-aligned patterns
- Mapped regulatory requirements into data flows and architectural controls
- Authored core discovery artefacts — System Overview, Architecture Description, and Delivery Strategy
Clarity & Communication
- Created architecture visuals and onboarding flows to align ambition with delivery reality
- Used wireframes to surface hidden assumptions and unblock stakeholder decisions
Planning & De-Risking
- Built a 12-month roadmap with hiring, sequencing, and investment assumptions
- Defined a delivery model suited to early-stage growth — scalable without losing control
What Changed
From Vision to Execution
- Leadership moved from bold ambition to a credible, fundable delivery plan
- The board signed off with architecture, roadmap, and hiring strategy in hand
From Ambiguity to Alignment
- Stakeholders aligned around a defined MVP with visible trade-offs
- Internal conversations shifted from “what’s possible?” to “when do we start?”
From Blank Slate to Strategic Readiness
- The business gained a blueprint for cloud, vendors, and team growth
- Investor decks, RFPs, and team plans drew directly from the work I led
Reflections
A bold product vision is only valuable if it comes with a strategy you can execute under pressure.
This engagement turned architectural thinking into business traction — and speculation into a board-level plan investors could back.
Shaping a platform or pitching a vision?
I turn ambition into architecture — and pressure into planning that holds.
